This and That
I was watching Carson run around and play the other day and cannot believe our little baby has become a boy. He typically has a ball in his hand, but never for very long before it's thrown. Daddy has also taught him to practice his left handed baseball swing as well. Carson is a dancing machine and still loves music. He shuffles his feet, spins around, and then dives in the middle of the room. Each day we have more and more fun with him, but he is also getting smarter and smarter and testing the boundaries. Timeouts are still occurring as necessary. I gave him a warning the other day that if he did something again he would have to go to timeout. He proceeded to point to the timeout corner and put himself in timeout.
We have added green bell peppers to the list of foods Carson likes. I offered him a slice, expecting rejection, he took a bite and then signed more! We're trying to get Carson to speak more. He says ball and Jason has been working on 'up' with him. Currently it sounds more like a grunt, but it's the same grunt every time. Teething has started again; I finally felt his two top eye teeth coming in. It's starting to get dangerous to put my fingers in his mouth!
I haven't taken very many pictures of Carson lately for two reasons; 1) He doesn't stand still long enough to get a clear picture and 2) Every time I pull out the camera he wants to play with it and throws a fit when I don't let him.
Last, but not least, very big HAPPY BIRTHDAYS go out to Zac and Jason this week!!!!! (Birthday pictures to come after celebrations this weekend)

Mirror Image

Carkey and timeouts
We went to visit friends last night and they have a daughter that is five months older than Carson. She would call Carson - Carkey; it was the cutest thing! They played great together and had so much fun!
After many talks with other moms about deciding how to handle 'timeout', Carson got his first timeout today. We got a shelving unit with bins and Carson has decided that he likes to pull out a bin and then shake the whole unit. This morning I told him 'no' and it was dangerous, so then he proceeded to say, 'No' and then shake it. This warranted his first, second and third timeout all within 5 minutes. He left it alone the rest of the day, but then decided to put the show on again after Dad got home and we ended up having to do three timeouts back to back again. I don't think he quite gets it yet, but at least now we have a designated spot and we're being consistent. He picked up right away that if he gets up and starts to leave he will be put back. So now if he sees me coming to get him he turns around and walks back on his own. Much to my frustration, I think Carson somewhat enjoys the 'game' of timeout.

Flashlight fun
Carson discovered the fun of flashlights tonight. I turned out the lights, moved the flashlight around the room and he would chase after it. He took over the reigns and moved it around himself. He loved to shine it on the ceiling and wave it back and forth. Thankfully he can't turn it on by himself! He is the proud owner of three teeth now. His second top tooth came in last week.
My favorite moment of the day was when Carson put down his bat and ball and climbed into my lap to read his nighttime story.

Christmas
Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a great Christmas with friends and loved ones. We enjoyed a white Christmas with my parents in Spokane and Zac & Emily. Our travel plans couldn't have been any better; we arrived just after a storm and left just before the next storm came through town. Carson enjoyed tearing the wrapping paper off gifts and playing with the boxes, but still doesn't get the concept yet. Next Christmas will be much more exciting for him. He walked and slid on the ice outside and threw his first snowball! Jason and I also got to slip away for a night and have dinner at PF Changs. You don't realize how much you need a night out and quiet dinner until you go!
Next stop was Grandpa Andrew's. We had a very nice Christmas with Gary and Carolyn, dumplings and all. Carson was an excellent helper putting all the wrapping paper in the trash bag during gifts. We were treated to another white Christmas and Carson got out in the snow there too!
We enjoyed our third white Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa Keevil and DaCoda. The boys (Jason, DaCoda, and Carson) played catch outside and there were several Wii tournaments of bowling and archery. We are so blessed to have such wonderful family and to be able to spend time with all of them at Christmas!

Manners
Carson can sign 'please' with the best of them. He uses it at the right times and knows that it will get him what he wants. But it just makes him extra upset when he signs please and doesn't get what he asked for. I can already see the terrible two temper tantrums on their way. He knows 'thank you' and will use it when we ask him to, but doesn't grasp the concept of it yet.

He's very good about asking for more when it's right in front of him, but he typically doesn't say what he wants more of. It's so great to get insight into his little mind and he doesn't have to get upset that he can't tell us what he needs. He also started signing airplane in the last couple weeks. Being within 30 miles of a major airport and an air force base we see and hear a lot of planes around the house.
